TRYOUT POLICIES

USA HOCKEY / MID AM POLICIES

Esmark Stars AAA Hockey will adhere to all policies of USA Hockey and Mid Am in regard to tryout dates.

UNABLE TO TRYOUT POLICY

Esmark Stars AAA Hockey has a minimum of three tryout sessions in order to evaluate each player as accurately as possible. It is strongly recommended that all players attend all tryout sessions in order to facilitate this evaluation process and make it as accurate as possible.

However, it is recognized that through no fault of their own some players may not be able to attend all of the tryout sessions. In the event that a tryout session must be missed the evaluating coaches will evaluate that player as best they can from what has been observed and place that player accordingly and the parents will recognize that the evaluators have done the best evaluation possible under a handicapped situation.

If any player is unable to attend any of the sessions, his intent to play for the Esmark Stars in the next season must be shown by registering for tryouts, no later than the first night of tryouts. A doctor’s excuse or detailed letter stating why the player is unable to participate and the anticipated date he will be able to participate must be emailed to dwk@thekmagroup.com.

The Esmark Stars AAA Hockey Club reserves the right to hold supplemental tryouts to fill any and all open roster positions, post open tryouts.

Contact information for supplemental tryouts will be posted on the Esmark Stars AAA Hockey website.

Pittsburgh Viper Stars Tier II Initiative

The North Hills Amateur Hockey Association (NHAHA), parent organization of Pittsburgh Viper Hockey and Esmark Stars AAA Hockey, are looking forward to the second season of its Pittsburgh Viper Stars initiative. The initiative is designed to establish a new high-level Tier II select hockey program that will bridge the gap between elite Tier I (AAA) travel hockey and house / rec hockey.

The program revised the Pittsburgh Viper Stars name that had previously been associated with the organization’s Tier I (AAA) teams.  The Viper Stars name was converted to its current name, Esmark Stars AAA Hockey, six years ago.

“We look forward to the second season of this initiative,” said NHAHA President, Heather Ruffner. “We developed this program to fill a void between our two existing programs, Vipers and Stars, while creating a new and unique opportunity to the western Pennsylvania market.”

The Pittsburgh Viper Stars is a Tier II (AA) select program that provide a fun, healthy and competitive atmosphere in which players can strive to be their best, mixed with a high-end training regimen usually reserved for Tier I AAA programs.  As defined, the two main goals of the program will be to develop elite athletes who play hockey at the Tier II level, as well as to compete for National Championships at age appropriate Tier II levels, recognized by USA Hockey.

The Viper Stars program will offer a training program mirrored on the Esmark Tier I program, including training opportunities, both on and off the ice, currently not provided to most Tier II players and programs.

“We look to achieve these goals by providing experienced coaching … both game and skills coaches … innovative training, and a quality practice-to-game ratio,” Ruffner added.

And like both Pittsburgh Viper Hockey and Esmark Stars AAA Hockey programs, the Pittsburgh Viper Stars program calls the Pittsburgh Ice Arena home.

The Viper Stars teams are scheduled to participate in the Pittsburgh Amateur Hockey League (PAHL), as well as a play an independent travel schedule.

Teams will be selected from an open try-out process.  To register for tryouts for the Pittsburgh Viper Stars, prospective players will need to register at (www.pittsburghvipers.com).

For additional information on the new Pittsburgh Viper Stars program or Pittsburgh Viper Hockey program, please visit (www.pittsburghvipers.com).
