Four of the five Esmark Stars AAA teams were in action over the course of this past weekend, March 2-4, as the U12, U15, U16 and U18 teams returned to the ice to conclude the 2017-18 regular season.
The U15 AAA Stars welcomed the Cleveland Barons to Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Ice Arena to close the regular season with a Friday night / Saturday morning schedule. The two squads split the series with the Stars skating to a 4-2 win Friday night and the Barons taking the Saturday morning finale, 4-1. The split levels the 15U Stars final regular season record to 25-25-4-3.
The U16 Stars closed the season with a home and home series with the U16 Pittsburgh Predators. Despite a lopsided shot clock, the Predators upended the Stars 3-0 at the Ice Castle arena on Saturday evening. The two clubs concluded the series and the 2017-18 regulars season on Sunday at the Pittsburgh Ice Arena , skating to a 1-1 tie. The U16 Stars concluded the regular season with a 34-20-3-2 record.
Likewise, the U18 Esmark Stars concluded the 2017-18 regular season with a home and home series with the Pittsburgh Predators. On Saturday evening, at Ice Castle Arena, the Stars outshot the Predators 55-12, but overtime was necessary to settle the final score. The Stars would go on to earn a 3-2 OT win as Ethan Webb scored 9 seconds into the extra frame. On Sunday, the two clubs hooked up at the Pittsburgh Ice Arena for their season finale, with the Stars skating to a 8-0 win as Nick Caretta collected a hat-trick and Wes Scott and Andrew Murphy each tallied a pair of goals. The wins upped the U18 Stars final regular season record to 34-15-2-6.
The U14 Stars had the weekend off, as they had concluded their regular season a week before. The U14s concluded the regular season with a record of 39-19-3-1.
