U16, U15 & U14 IN ACTION

Three of the five Esmark Stars AAA teams were in action over the course of this past weekend, Feb. 3-4,  as the U16, U15 and U14 teams returned to the ice.

The U15 Stars welcome the Potomac Patriots, Cleveland Wildcats and Dayton Stealth to town for the Pittsburgh U15 AAA Showcase.  The Stars dropped a tough 5-4 decision to the Cleveland Wildcats in the opening game of the round-robin showcase, despite taking a 4-2 lead into the third period.  But instead of dwelling on the loss, the Stars returned to the ice later on Saturday and skated past the Dayton Stealth, 5-1.  On Sunday, the Stars conclude round-robin play with a 6-1 win over the Potomac Patriots.  The back-to-back wins advanced the Stars to a rematch with Cleveland in the "1 vs 2" game.  The Stars responded with a 9-2 win over Cleveland to complete the event 3-1-0-0, and improve their overall record to 24-21-4-3.

The U14 AAA Stars traveled to Erie, PA, on Sunday, Feb. 4, for a pair of games against the Erie Jr. Otters and skated to a pair of shutout wins, 4-0 and 9-0.  The wins improved the 14Us overall record to 34-17-3-1.

The U16 AAA Esmark Stars traveled to Cranberry Township and the Lemieux Complex for a pair of games against the U16 AAA Pittsburgh Penguin Elite.  The top two seeded U16 teams in the Mid-American District split the two-game series with the Pens Elite grabbing the first game 2-0 and the Stars responding with a 2-0 shutout in the second game behind a shutout performance from goaltender Craig Perry.  The split leaves the Stars U16 overall record at 32-17-2-2.

Both the U18 & U12 Stars had the weekend off.
