Participate in Motor City Cup

The Esmark Stars 15U and 18U AAA teams AAA traveled to Detroit this past weekend, Sept. 8 - 10, 2017, to participate in the Motor City Cup.

The tournament brings an outstanding group of primarily midwest and Michigan based squads for three days of high end competition.

The U18 Stars, who finished round-robin play with a 2-1-0 record, opened the tournament with an exciting 1-0 win over MDHL White. In game two, Esmark dropped a hard fought 3-1 decision to Belle Tire (who would go on to win the tournament with a 3-1 win over Little Caesar's). Needing an impressive win in game three, to improve their position in tiebreaker formulas, the Stars skated to a 5-1 win over Team Illinois, out of the High Performance Hockey League (HPHL) and advanced to the tournament's quarter-finals.

In the quarter-finals Esmark would drop a tough 5-3 decision to Victory Honda, after taking the lead with a little over eight minutes remaining in regulation.

The U15 Stars, dropped their opening game to NAPHL league-rival Meijer AAA, 5-3. Esmark would rebound in game two, skating to a hard fought and rare 0-0 tie against the HPHL's Team Illinois. In game three, the Stars skated to a 5-0 shut-out of the St. Louis Prospects, to finish round-robin play 1-1-1.

Finishing third in their bracket, as Team Illinois would be seeded one and Meijer AAA two, the Stars crossed over and played a consolation game against the MDHL Green, where they dropped a 2-0 decision.

This upcoming weekend, the U12 Esmark Stars are off to Rochester, NY, Sept. 15-17, to participate in the Monarch Battle Royale Tournament, while the U14 Stars travel to Columbus for a Mid-Am showdown with Mid-Am rival the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets.
