Reykjavik, Iceland - Congratulations to former Stars forward Robbie Sigurdsson on helping Iceland capture the 2022 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship, Division II Group B.

Sigurdsson, who skated for the Stars U16 team during the 2009-10 season and with the Stars U18 squad during the 2010-11 season. scored four points (2G, 2A), including one power play goal and one game-winning-goal, and finished the tournament with a +5 plus/minus rating in four games, as Iceland skated to a perfect (4-0-0-0) record in capturing the 2022 IIHF (Division II, Group B) World Championship.

This was the fifth appearance of Sigurdsson at IIHF World Championships. He has previously represented Iceland in the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 tournaments and has recorded 19 points (9 goals and 10 assists) in 23 career World Championship appearances.

The Division II, Group B event, one of eight levels of ice hockey tournaments hosted by the IIHF each year to crown World Champions, was held in Reykjavik, Iceland, in late April. The tournament had been scheduled to be hosted in Reykjavik the past two years, unfortunately it was postponed in both 2021 and 2020 due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Iceland, as champions of the Division II Group B event, will now be promoted up to Division II Group A for the 2023 World Championships.

The IIHF is comprised of 82 member countries.
