LEAGUE AND TOURNAMENT ACTION

Five of Esmark Stars AAA Hockey program's Tier I teams were back in action this past weekend, Nov. 19-21.

The U16 & U18 Stars were back in North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) action as they hosted the NAPHL Central's Ohio Valley Division and the NAPHL Eastern Division in a three-day showcase event at the Pittsburgh Ice Arena.

The Stars U18 squad opened the Pittsburgh Event with a 5-0 shutout win over the New Jersey Jr Titans on Friday evening. Brody Simko (2G), Justin Mettrick (1G, 1A), Shane Kozlina (1G, 1A) and Logan Scanlon all scored for Esmark.  Liam Varmecky (2A), Hunter Fairmain (2A) and Chase Williams picked up assists. Nikita Volski stopped all 24 Titan shots he faced to get the shutout and win in goal.

On Saturday the Stars skated to a 7-0 shutout win over the New Hampshire Avalanche. Ethan Zupanc (2G, 2A), Maddux Rearic (1G, 1A), Shane Kozlina (1G, 1A), Chase Williams, Justin Mettrick and Regan Kalis scored goals for the Stars. Logan Dittenhafer (2A), Shane Miller (2A), Liam McClain, Liam Varmecky, Cole Mitchell, Keith Smilowitz and Brody Simko all picked up assists. Sam Boos earned the win and shutout in goal for Esmark. Esmark outshot New Hampshire 72-4 for the game.

Saturday evening, Esmark skated to a hard fought 4-3 win over the Maine Nordiques. For the game, the Stars and Nordiques would combine for six power-play goals, four by Esmark and two by Maine in a penalty-filled affair. Logan Scanlon (2G), Chase Williams (1G, 1A) and Shane Miller all scored goals, all while the Stars enjoyed the man-advantage. Liam Varmecky (2A), Brody Simko (2A), Maddux Rearic, and Regan Kalis picked up assists. Nikita Volski stopped 22 of 25 shots he faced to get the win in goal.

The Midget Major Stars closed the NAPHL Showcase on Sunday with a 4-3 win over the Indy Jr Fuel (7-16-3-1). Hunter Fairmain (3G, 1A) paced the Stars offense with a three-goal hat-trick.  Shane Kozlina (1G, 2A) scored the other Stars goal. Justin Mettrick (2A), Logan Dittehafer, Liam McClain and Cole Mitchell picked up assists. Sam Boos grabbed the win in goal stopping 13 of the 14 Fuel shots he faced. For the game, the Stars outshot the Fuel 47-14.

The (4-0-0-0) Pittsburgh weekend improved the U18 Midget Major Stars overall record to (18-3-2-1).

The Stars U16 AAA squad opened the Pittsburgh Showcase with a 4-2 win over the Tri-State Spartans Friday afternoon. Gavin Crivelli, Nathan Burlando, Aaron Stawiarski and Caden Lindo Canfield scored for the Stars. Elliott Lingle, Mark Trischler, Zak Wilcox, Max Rutkowski and Wes Schwarzmiller all picked up assists. Owen Byers was the winning goaltender.

Friday evening, the Stars 16U team grabbed a 5-2 win over the New Jersey Jr Titans. Wes Schwarzmiller (2G), Ilya Zhdanov (1G, 2A), Aaron Stawiarski (1G, 1A) and Nathan Burlando scored Esmark goals. Aiden Briggs (2A), Mark Trischler, Max Rutkowski and Reid West all earned assists. Ian Amaranto was the winning goaltender.

On Saturday evening the Stars Midget Minor team skated to a 2-0 shutout win over the New Hampshire Avalanche. Zak Wilcox and Aaron Stawiarski scored for the Stars. Aiden Briggs, Nathan Burlando and Wes Schwarzmiller all picked up assists. Ian Amaranto earned the win and shutout in goal stopping all 23 shots he faced in goal.

Esmark closed the league showcase on Sunday, with a 13-2 pasting of the Northeast Generals. Aaron Stawiarski (4G, 1A) led the offensive explosion with a four-goal effort. Aiden Briggs (2G, 4A), Nathan Burlando (2G, 2A), Zak Wilcox (2G, 2A), Ilya Zhdanov (1G, 3A), Max Rutkowski (1G, 1A) and Mark Trischler scored goals for the Stars. Rory Shegan Siniawski (3A), Wes Schwarzmiller (3A), Aiden Tarasovich (2A), Logan Eisaman (2A) and Caden Lindo Canfield all picked up assists. Owen Byers was the winning goaltender.

The unblemished (4-0-0-0) Pittsburgh weekend improved the U16 Midget Minor Stars overall record to (19-4-1-2).

Meanwhile the U14 and U13 Esmark squads traveled to New Jersey and participated in a Eastern Exposure Series Showcase event.

Esmark's U14 squad opened play on Friday evening with a 4-3 win over the Mercer Chiefs at the ProSkate Ice Arena in Monmouth Junction, NJ. Emmet McClaine (3G) led the Stars offense with a three-goal hat-trick. Joey Vecchio scored the other Stars goal. Vladyslav Bomaziuk (2A), Luke Mink, Aiden Moskovitz and Liam Mahoney grabbed assists. Kyle McLaughlin was credited with the tie in goal, stopping 26 of the 29 shots he faced.

On Saturday, the Stars grabbed a pair of wins, 4-2 over Team Maryland and 5-3 over the New Jersey Colonials at ProSkate Ice Arena.

Against Team Maryland, Ian Morganti (2G), Joey Vecchio and Vitaliy Ulanov scored the Esmark goals. Ethan Buranovsky, Aiden Moskovitz, Liam Mahoney and Thomas Barefoot all earned assists. Noah Frohnhofer was the winning goalie, stopping 30 of the 32 shots he faced.

In the win over the Colonials, Ian Morganti (2G), Emmet McClaine (1G, 1A), Liam Mahoney (1G, 1A) and Vladyslav Bomaziuk scored Esmark goals. Trey Dopson and Vitaliy Ulanov earned assists. Kyle McLaughlin earned the victory in goal, stopping 21 of the 24 shots he faced.

They closed the four-game showcase on Sunday, dropping a 3-2 decision to the Florida Alliance at the ProSkate Ice Arena. Jacob Miller and Vladyslav Bomaziuk scored for the Stars. Owen Kowalkowski and Joey Vecchio picked up assists. Noah Frohnhofer suffered the loss in goal, stopping 22 of the 25 shots he faced.

All their games were played at the ProSkate Ice Arena in Monmouth Junction, NJ.

The (3-1-0-0) EES Showcase improves the U14 Bantam Major Stars overall record to (13-9-6-0).

The Star's U13 squad opened play on Friday at the Iceland Arena in Hamilton, NJ, with a 3-3 tie against the Rochester Americans. Gus Coffeld (1G, 2A), Alex Patsilevas (1G, 1A) and Ryan Crouse scored goals for Esmark. Gavin Grant (2A) picked up a pair of assists. Jackson Johnson stopped 34 of 37 shots he faced to earn the tie in goal.

Friday afternoon, the Stars grabbed a 2-1 win over the Mercer Chiefs at the ProSkate Ice Arena in Monmouth Junction, NJ. Ryan Crouse and Alex Patsilevas scored goals. While Gavin Grant and Chase Secriskey picked up assists. Corbin Holt was the winning goaltender, stopping 49 of the 50 shots he saw in goal.

On Saturday morning, the Stars dropped a 5-2 decision to the Long Island Royals back at the Iceland Arena. Synjun McHattie (2G) scored both Esmark goals. Gus Coffeld picked up the lone assist. Jackson Johnson suffered the loss in goal.

Saturday afternoon the Stars returned to the win column with a 4-3 win over the New York Saints at the Iceland Arena. Chase Secriskey (1G, 2A), Cain Phillip, Ryan Crouse and Synjun McHattie scored Esmark goals. Alex Patsilevas (2A) and Kaden Lyons earned assists. Corbin Holt picked up his second win of the showcase, stopping 33 of 36 shots he faced in goal.

The Bantam Minor Stars squad closed their five-game showcase on Sunday, with a 8-1 win over the Connecticut Jr Whalers back at the Iceland Arena.  Ryan Crouse (2G), Synjun McHattie (2G), Chase Secriskey (1G, 3A), Alex Patsilevas (1G, 2A), Gus Coffeld and Chase Irwin all scored goals. Ray Trovato and Hunter Spicher added assists. Jackson Johnson was the winning goaltender.

The (3-1-1-0) EES Showcase improves the U13 Bantam Minor Stars overall record to (14-17-1-0).

The Stars U12 Pee Wee Major team, traveled north on I-79 to Rochester, NY and a weekend triple-header with the Rochester Americans at the Rochester Ice Arena. Rochester would grab all three games 2-0, 5-4 and 5-3.

In the opening 2-0 shutout loss on Saturday, Ben Wilson suffered the loss in goal, stopping 29 of 31 shots he faced in goal

Saturday afternoon in the 5-4 loss, Brody Pablic (1G, 1A), Chay Lamagna, Beau Ritson and Chris Sargo scored Stars goals. Alex DeWitt, Cicco and Saftner picked up assists. Jacob Johnson suffered the loss in goal, stopping 33 of 38 shots he faced.

The two 2009 squads closed the weekend with Rochester getting a 5-3 win. Maxsim Popienko (2G) andJack Koerbel scored for Esmark. Cullen Carlson (2A), Jacob DeWitt, Chay Lamagna and Reston Cicco all picked up assists. Ben Wilson suffered the loss in goal, stopping 34 of the 29 shots he faced.

The (0-3-0-0) weekend drops the U12 Pee Wee Major Stars overall record to (8-19-4-0).

The U11 Stars (14-17-2-0) were likewise scheduled to travel to Rochester for a four-game weekend, with two games against the Rochester Americans on Saturday and two with the Rochester Coalition on Sunday, but the games were cancelled.
