Weekend Recap: Nov. 12 - 14

Stars Pee Wee Minors (2010) go 5-0-0-0

It a unexpected relatively light weekend (Nov. 12-14), the Esmark Stars AAA Hockey program had only one team, U11 Pee Wee Minor, team in action as the 2010 Stars team headed West on I-76 to Mentor, OH, and participated in the Cleveland Invite Showcase.

On Friday, the Stars opened the showcase with a 1-0 shutout win over the Ohio Prospects at the Mentor Ice Arena, in Mentor, OH. Royce Wiegand scored the lone Stars goal, with an assist from Alex Hatajik. Xavier Haduch earned both the win and shutout in goal stopping all 16 shots he faced.

Friday evening the Stars returned to the ice and grabbed a 6-4 win over the PSM Force squad out of Fort Wayne, IN, back at the Mentor Arena. Beau Ritson led the offensive attack with a three-goal hat-trick. Caden Biddle (1G, 1A), Xypher Zamias (1G, 1A) and Royce Wiegand scored the other Stars goals. Liam Lehneke (2A), Connor Zuri, Blake Brenckle, Cole Schwartz, Caleb Krynicky and goaltender Issac Heisel all picked up assists. In addition to the assist, Heisel also grabbed the win in goal for Esmark

Early Saturday afternoon, the Stars returned to the ice and skated to a 2-1 win over Michigan-based Fox Motors at the Mentor Arena. Jordan Luca andAsan  Abdygulov scored the Esmark goals. Quinn Mitchell, Blake Brenckle and Caleb Krynicky all earned assists. Xavier Haduch grabbed his second win of the showcase in goal for the Stars, turning aside 21 of the 22 shots he faced.

Saturday night the Stars skated to a 18-0 lopsided win over the Carolina Premier U11 club at the Euclid Ice Arena in Euclid, OH. Beau Ritson (3G, 2A) and Asan Abdygulov (3G, 2A) each collected a three-goal hat-trick. Xypher Zamias (2G, 3A), Joseph Alsippi (2G, 2A), Alex Hatajik (2G), Caden Biddle (1G, 2A), Royce Wiegand (1G, 2A), Blake Brenckle (1G, 1A), Caleb Krynicky (1G, 1A), Liam Lehneke (1G, 1A) and Jordan Lucca also scored goals. Connor Zuri (3A), Quinn Mitchell (3A), Ryder Martin (3A), Liam Fediaczko and goaltender Issac Helsel all picked up assists. In addition to the assist, Heisel also claimed his second win of the showcase and a shutout in goal for the Stars.

The Pee Wee Minor Stars closed the showcase, and undefeated weekend, with a 5-2 win over the Buffalo Saints back at the Mentor Ice Arena Sunday morning.

Xypher Zamias (2G, 1A), Liam Fediaczko, Liam Lehneke and Asan Abdygulov scored the Esmark goals. Alex Hatajik, Jordan Lucca and Cole Schwartz earned assists. Xavier Haduch was the winning goaltender, stopping 17 of the 19 shots he faced in goal.

The weekend five-game sweep improves the U11 Stars overall record to (14-17-2-0).

Both the Stars U16 (15-4-1-2) and U18 (14-3-2-1) squads were scheduled to play the Nichols School respective U16 & U18 squads this past weekend, but the games were cancelled due to a scheduling conflict.

The U12, U13 and U14 Esmark teams all enjoyed a scheduled weekend off.
