Stars Youngest Teams in Weekend Action

The Esmark Stars AAA Hockey program three youngest teams (U11, U12, U13) all saw action this past weekend, Oct. 2 - 3.

Esmark's U13 Bantam Minor team dropped a pair of home game decision to Mid-Am District rival the U13 Ohio AAA Blue Jackets at the Pittsburgh Ice Arena on Saturday.

In the opener, the Blue Jackets would grab a 2-0 shutout win. Corbin Holt suffered the loss in goal despite turning aside 26 of the 28 shots he faced.

In the nightcap, the Jackets smothering defense continued as they blanked the Stars 3-0. Jackson Johnson would suffer the loss in goal despite turning aside 31 of the 34 shots he would face.

The two-game skid leaves the Stars U13 Bantam Minor team with an overall record of (5-9-0-0).

Meanwhile, the U12 Pee Wee Major AAA Esmark Stars rolled to a pair of home wins, 15-1 and 6-2, over the visiting Carolina Premier.

On Saturday, the Stars offense exploded with six first period and six second period goals on their way to 15 goals in a 15-1 win. Jacob DeWitt (4G, 4A) and Cullen Carlson (4G, 1A) led the offensive attack as each skater collected four goals. Chris Sargo (2G, 2A), Maxsim Popienko (2G, 1A), Reston Cicco (1G, 1A), Connor Stivers (1G, 1A) and Daniel Maloney added goals. Brody Boban (3A), Brody Pablic (2A), William McKivigan (2A), Chay Lemagna (2A), Jack Koerbel (2A) and  Thomas Saftner (2A) added assists. Jacob Johnson grabbed the win in goal.

In Sunday's win, Maxsim Popienko scored a three-goal hat-trick to pace the Stars offense. Brady Boaban (1G, 1A), Jacob DeWitt and Beau Ritson also scored goals. Cullen Carlson (2A), Brody Pablic, Chris Sargo and Daniel Maloney added assists. And Ben Wilson earned the win in goal.

The home sweep improves the U12 Pee Wee Major AAA Esmark Stars overall record to (5-6-1-0).

Likewise, the U11 Pee Wee Minor AAA Esmark Stars were at home this past weekend welcoming the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets and Rochester Americans into town for a four-game weekend.

The U11 squad opened the weekend dropping a 9-1 game to the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets on Saturday. Blake Brenckle scored the lone Stars goal. Both Issac Helsel and Xavier Haduch saw time in goal with Haduch suffering the loss in goal.

In the second game of the Saturday double-header, the Stars and Jackets would skate to a 3-3 tie. Blake Brenckle (2G) continued his hot hand scoring a pair of goals and Caden Biddle (1G, 2A) added a goal and a pair of assists. Xypher Zamias (2A) and Joseph Alsippi added assists. Both Issac Helsel and Xavier Haduch again split time in goal with Haduch earning the tie.

On Sunday, Oct. 3, the Stars would drop a 4-1 decision to the Rochester Americans in the opening game of their two-game set. Jordan Lucca scored the Stars lone goal. Xavier Haduch would suffer the loss in goal.

In the second Sunday game versus the Americans, the Stars would skate to a 3-1 win. Caden Biddle (1G, 2A), Blake Brenckle and Liam Lehneke scored for Esmark. Beau Ritson and Ryder Martin would add assists. And Issac Helsel would turn aside 21 of the 22 shots he faced to earn the win in goal.

The (1-2-1-0) home weekend leaves the U11 Pee Wee Minor AAA Esmark Stars with a (5-10-1-0) overall record.
