Weekend Recap: Sept. 10 - 12

16U, 14U, 13U AND 12U IN ACTION

The Esmark Stars AAA Hockey program had four of its teams (U12, U13, U14 & U16) in action this past weekend, Sept. 10 - 12.

Esmark's U16 AAA squad opened their home schedule with a pair of wins over the visiting Ohio AAA 16U Blue Jackets at the Pittsburgh Ice Arena on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday the Stars grabbed a tight 3-2 win behind goaltender Ian Amaranto. The Stars completed the sweep with a 2-0 shutout win on Sunday, as newcomer Nick Kelly shut the door on the Blue Jackets and grabbed his first shutout and win in goal for Esmark. The weekend sweep improves the U16 Stars overall record to (6-1-1-0).

Esmark's U14 squad headed north to Buffalo, for a weekend series with the Amherst Knights, picking up a win and a tie. 

The two 2007 squads open the series with a 3-3 tie on Saturday at the Northtown Center in Amherst. Luke Mink, Aiden Moskovitz and Joe Vecchio scored for the Stars. Ian Morganti, Liam Mahoney and Thomas Barefoot each picked up an assist. Noah Fronhofer stopped 19 of 22 shots he faced in earning the tie in goal.

On Sunday also at the Northtown Center, Vitaliy Ulanov paced the Stars offense in a 5-0 shutout win as he scored a three-goal hat-trick, including a shorthanded goal. Emmet McClain and Nino DiPietro also scored goals for the Stars, with McClain's goal also coming while the Stars were shorthanded. Kyle McLaughlin earned the win and shutout in goal, stopping all 26 shots he faced.

The trip up to and across I-90 improved the Stars U14 overall record to (2-0-3-0).

Likewise, Esmark's Bantam Minor team traveled to Buffalo for a three-game triple-header.

The 2008 AAA squad dropped a 3-1 decision to the Amherst Knights to open the weekend on Saturday at the Northtown Center. Cain Phillip scored the Stars lone goal with Chase Secriskey and Ryan Crouse earning assists. Corbin Holt suffered the loss in goal, stopping 24 of the 27 shots he faced.

Later Saturday afternoon, the U13 Stars grabbed a 3-2 win over Amherst back at the Northtown Center. Cain Phillip, Chase Secriskey and Alex Patsilevas scored for the Stars. Gus Coffield picked up an assist. Jackson Johnson earned the win in goal, stopping 23 of the 25 shots he faced.

On Sunday, Esmark's Bantam Minor team closed their trip to Buffalo with a 5-1 win over the Buffalo Regals at the Depew Pavilion. Chase Secriskey (1G, 2A), Ryan Crouse (1G, 1A), Gus Coffield, Sean Goodman and Christopher Moran all scored goals. Alex Patsilevas (2A) added a pair of assists. Corbin Holt grabbed the win in goal, turning back 14 of the 15 shots he faced.

The weekend trip to Buffalo improves the Stars overall record to 2-3-0-0).

The U12 Pee Wee Major AAA Esmark Stars also were in Buffalo, with a four-game, three-day road trip.

The Stars would return home winless on the trip as they dropped a 7-3 decision on Friday at the Northtown Center in Amherst; a 5- 2 decision on Saturday at the Dann Memorial  Rink on the campus of Nicholls Prep School; a 8-1 decision later Saturday afternoon at the Cornerstone Arena in Lockport, NY; and finally a 7-1 decision on Sunday back at the  Cornerstone Arena.

The road trip dropped the u12 Stars overall record to (1-5-0-0).

Both the Stars U18 (5-1-0-0) and U11 (2-5-0-0) squads enjoyed the weekend off.
