Stars Midget Teams in Action

The Stars 18U, 16U and 15U Midget teams traveled to the Hoosier State, Indiana, to participate in Showcase events this past weekend, Jan. 8-10,

The U16 Stars (18-10-1-0) were in Fort Wayne, IN,  for the SuperSeries AAA - Fort Wayne Showcase.

The U16 squad opened the event with a 3-0 shutout win over the Carolina Jr Hurricanes on Friday. Logan Scanlon and Shane Kozlina each scored a goal and an assist, and Brody Simko also found the back of the net.  Joey Pankowski and Jacob Meier each picked up assists.  Blaise Becker earned the win and shutout in goal.

On Saturday, the midget minor Stars dropped a pair of tough decisions, 1-0  to Compuware and 4-3 to Little Caesars.

Against Compuware, Nikita Volski suffered the loss in goal despite stopping 23 of 24 shots he faced as Compuware scored the lone goal late in the third period.

In the Little Caesars loss, Demian Tychenko (1G, 1A), Chase Williams and Shane Kozlina scored goals for the Stars. While Milan Levcenko, Sebastian Vogt and Joey Pankowski all earned assists.  Both Blaise Becker and Nikita Volski saw action in the game, allowing two goals each.  Becker suffered the loss.

The U16 Stars closed the event dropping a 4-0 shut-out decision to Culver Academy.  Nikita Volski suffered the loss in goal.

The (1-3-0-0) showing in Fort Wayne leaves the U16 Stars with an overall record of (19-13-1-0) .

The U18 Stars were also in Fort Wayne, IN,  for the SuperSeries AAA - Fort Wayne Showcase.

They opened the event with a 4-4 tie against Northwood Prep (NY) on Friday.  Ryder Brophy (2G, 1A), Michael Felsing (1G, 3A), and Ed Pazo (1G, 2A) scored for the Stars.  Yahor Ramanau also picked up an assist.  Connor Strobel was credited with the tie in goal as he stopped 27 of the 31 shots he faced as Northwood tied the game late in the third period.

On Saturday the Stars played a pair of games.  In the opening game, they grabbed a 4-3 win over the nation's number 3 ranked Midget Tier I team (www.myhockeyrankings.com) Culver Academy (IN).  Yahor Ramanau scored a pair of goals, including one on the power play, to pace the offense.  Ethan Zupanc (1G, 1A) and Ed Pazo also scored goals.  Dominic Dezort (2A), Adis Ultanbekov, John Camp, Zachary Stoner, Regan Kallis and Michael Felsing all earned assists.  Nathan Dickey stopped 31 of 34 shots he faced to earn the win in goal.

In the Saturday evening game, the Stars and Gilmour Academy (OH)  played to a 2-2 tie.  Zacary Stoner and John Camp each scored power play goals, while Yahor Ramanau, Dominic Dezort, Michael Felsing and Ed Pazo earned assists.  Connor Strobel recorded the tie in goal, stopping 26 of 28 shots he faced, as Gilmour scored the tying goal with a little more than a minute remaining in regulation time.

On Sunday, the U18 Stars closed the Showcase with a 6-3 win over the Chicago Young Americans.  Michael Felsing (3G, 1A) paced the offense as he recorded a three-goal hat-trick, including a penalty shot goal, all in the third period.  Ryder Brophy (1G, 2A), Adis Ultanbekov (1G, 1A) and Brayden Morgan also scored goals for the Stars.  Brophy's goal came with the Stars on the man-advantage.  Egor Busygin, Liam Varmecky, Hunter Fairmain and Ed Pazo also picked up assists.  Nathan Dickey earned the win in goal, stopping 23 of 26 shots he faced.

The (2-0-2-0) showing in Fort Wayne ups the U18 Star's overall record to (24-12-4-0).

Meanwhile, the U15 Stars were in South Bend for the CCM Notre Dame Shootout. They opened play on Friday against Team Alaska and dropped a 4-1 decision.  Josh Coffee scored the lone Stars goal on an assist from Billy Kiray III.  Both Andrew Krakora and Ian Amaranto saw time in goal with Krakora suffering the loss.

Later Friday evening the Stars return to the ice and skated to a 3-0 shut-out win over the Rocky Mountain (CO) Roughriders.  Billy Kiray III, Joshua Coffee and Caden Lindo Canfield scoring goals.  Rory Shegan Siniawski picked up an assist.  Ian Amaranto stopped all 20 shots he faced to earn the shut-out and win in goal.

Saturday morning the Stars grabbed a 5-2 win over the San Diego Saints.  Luke Yost paced the offense, scoring a three-goal hat-trick.  Josh Coffee continue his scoring streak, finding the back of the net twice.  Alex Thomas was credited with two assists, and Robert Kelly and Billy Kiray III each added an assist.  Andrew Krakora picked up the win in goal for Esmark.

Saturday night the Stars dropped a tough 1-0 loss to the Colorado Thunderbirds.  Ian Amaranto stopped 34 of 35 shots he faced, but suffered the loss in goal.

The Stars U15 team closed the Showcase with a 3-0 loss to Belle Tire.  Andrew Krakora stopped 21 of 24 shots he faced, but suffered the loss in goal

The (2-3-0-0) showing at Notre Dame leaves the U15 Stars with an overall record of (15-18-0-1).

The U12 AAA Stars were idle this past weekend.
