18U / 16U and 12U Teams in Action

The Esmark Stars AAA Hockey program had three of its teams in action over the Columbus Day holiday weekend.

The U16 Stars traveled to York, PA, and the York Ice Arena for a three-game SuperSeries Showcase.  They opened their event on Saturday against Team Maryland U16 AAA and dropped a 3-2 decision.  Derek Pietrzyk and Brody Simko scored for the Stars.  Shane Kozlina picked up the lone assist. Nikita Volski turned aside 41 of 44 shots he faced, but suffered the loss in goal.  Team Maryland outshot the Stars 44 to 29 for the game.

On Sunday, the Stars dropped a 2-1 decision to the Buffalo Saints.  Billy Kiray scored the lone Stars goal with an assist from Austin Peterson.  Blaise Becker suffered the loss in goal, stopping 16 of the 18 shots he faced.  The Stars outshot the Saints 28 to 18 for the game.

Esmark's U16 squad closed the York Showcase on Monday with a 7-1 win over the Pittsburgh IceMen. Brody Simko led the offensive attack (2G, 1A). Logan Scanlon (1G, 1A), Milan Levcenko, Shane Kozlina, Sebastian Vogt, and Billy Kiray also scored. Scanlon's and Kozlina's goals came while the Stars were shorthanded. Chase Williams (2A), Jacob Meier, and Liam McClaine picked up assists. Nikita Volski earned the win in goal, turning aside 20 of the 21 shots he faced.  The Stars outshot the IceMen 46 to 21 for the game.

The (1-2-0-0) showing leaves the U16 Stars with an overall record of (8-7-0-0) on the early 2020-2021 campaign.

The U18 Stars traveled to the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry to participate in the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite 4Clubs Event.  They open the Showcase event on Saturday with a 6-3 win over the Buffalo Jr. Sabres. Dominic Dezort (2G, 2A) and Eddie Pazo paced the offense with a pair of goals each, including a penalty shot goal by Dezort with less than five minutes remaining in regulation. Michael Felsing (1G, 1A) and Justin Mettrick also scored the Stars.  Zack Stoner (2A), Hunter Fairman, John Camp and Shane Miller picked up assists.  Ethan Isaly was the winning goaltender, stopping 29 of 32 Buffalo shots he faced.

Later Saturday evening, the Stars returned to the ice and dropped a 5-2 decision to the nation's (MyHockeyRankings.com) number #2 team, the U18 Pittsburgh Penguins Elite.   Shane Miller and Dominic Dezort scored goals and Yahor Ramanau, Michael Felsing and Eddie Pazo picked up assists.  Mario Earfrati suffered the loss in goal in his Stars debut, turning aside 20 of 25 shots he faced.

The 18U Stars closed the showcase on Sunday, skating to a 1-1 tie with Little Caesars 18U AAA.  Hunter Fairman knotted the game at 1-1 early in the third period on assists to Shane Miller and Justin Mettrick. Ethan Isaly was credited with the tie in goal, turning aside 19 of the 20 shots he faced.

Meanwhile, the U12 AAA Stars opened their 2020-2021 home schedule at the Pittsburgh Ice Arena with a four-game home stand.  They dropped a 6-4 decision to the Charlotte Checkers AAA on Friday evening. Sean Goodman, Chase Secriskey, The (1-1-1-0) showing leaves the U18 Stars with an overall record of (7-5-1-0) on the early 2020-2021 campaign. Sean Goodman, Ryan Secriskey and Alex Patsilevas scored for the Stars. Connor Stivers, Canyon Hines, and Ryan Crouse picked up assists. Gio Scalley suffered the loss in goal.

The U12 Stars return to the ice on Saturday at noon and picked up a 5-3 win over the Rochester Americans. Ryan Crouse led the offense scoring a pair of goals. Connor Stivers, Alex Patsilevas (1G, 2A) and Joey Moore III also scored for the Stars. Chase Seciskey, Raymond Trovato, Sean Goodman and Brayden Snyder earned assists. Gio Scally earned the win in goal.

Later Saturday evening, the young Stars dropped a 6-5 decision to the Charlotte Checkers. Joey Moore III (2G), Ryan Crouse (1G, 2A), Alex Patsileves (1G, 2A), and Chase Seciskey scored for the Stars. Sean Goodman picked up an assist. Corbin Holt suffered the loss in goal.

The U12 Stars closed the four-game home stand with a 6-5 loss to the Rochester Americans on Sunday. Joey Moore III (2G, 2A), Connor Stivers (2G), and Chase Seciskey scored for the Stars.  Sean Goodman picked up three assists and Alex Patsilevas and John Tensuan earned assists. Corbin Holt suffered the loss in goal.

The U15 Stars enjoyed an off weekend.
