Esmark Stars U16 Enjoy Notre Dame Showcase

The Esmark Stars U16 AAA squad returned to action this past holiday weekend, as they traveled to the campus of Notre Dame University in South Bend, IN, to participate in the 2019 STX Shootout Tournament.

Esmark open the tournament on Friday (Nov. 29) morning, posting a 5-0 win over the Connecticut Jr. Rangers 16U AAA at Notre Dame's famed Compton Family Arena.  Logan Marnik posted the shutout and earned the win in goal.

Then on Friday afternoon,  the Stars skated to a 3-1 win over Canadian club St. Georges School Midget Prep AAA, out of British Columbia, at the Ice Box Arena. Nathan Dickey was the winning goaltender.

On Saturday, the Stars skated to a 1-0 defensive battle over the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes, on the olympic ice rink at the Compton Family Arena.  Logan Marnik posted his third consecutive shutout and earned the win in goal.

On Saturday evening, the Stars improved their showcase record to 4-0-0, as they returned to the olympic ice surface at the Compton Family Arena and scored twice on the power play to defeat Fox Motors (MI) U16 AAA 2-1 . Nathan Dickey was the winning goaltender.

Esmark closes the five-game showcase tournament with a late morning face-off on Sunday, Dec. 1, against the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders. And, despite jumping out to a 2-0 first period lead, the Stars were unable to stop the Rocky Mountain power-play, which cored four power play goals, en route to a 7-3 win. With the loss the U16 AAA Stars closed the event with a 4-1-0 record. Both Logan Marnik and Nathan Dickey saw playing time in goal, with Marnik getting saddled with the loss.

Overall the showing at Notre Dame improves the Stars record to (23-11-0-1).

Both the U15 and U18 Stars enjoyed a weekend off.
