Recap: Esmark Stars Oct. 4 - 6

Showcase Weekend: NAPHL II AND MOTOR CITY CUP FALL CLASSIC

The Esmark Stars AAA Hockey Club's U18, U16 and U15 squads were at a pair of showcase events this past weekend, Oct. 4-6, as the U18 and U16 Stars traveled to Attleboro, MA and Cranston, RI, for the NAPHL East Showcase, the second league showcase of the season, and the U15 Stars were in Detroit, MI, for the Motor City Cup Fall Classic Showcase.

At NAPHL II, the U18s opened their schedule with a 15-0 rout of the New England Generals on Friday morning. Dominic Dezort led the high scoring attack with six points, scoring four goals and adding two assists. Corbin Ragno, Ryder Brophy and Alex Walker, each with two goals, three assists, and Dalton Swartz, one goal and four assists, all recorded a five-point game. Eddie Pazo, two goals and two assists, and Brayden Morgan, two goals, scored the other Stars goals. Lane Ruffner and Trent Gray each recorded three assists, while Dustin Geregach, Nikita Zapolski and Preston Muha each added a pair of assists. Conor Stroebel recorded the win and the shutout in goal.

The Stars returned to the ice Friday afternoon, and skated to a 3-1 win over the the Seacoast Spartans. Again, Dominic Dezort paced the Stars offense, scoring a goal and an assist. Corbin Ragno and Ryder Brophy scored the other Star's goals, while Nikita Zapolski and Dalton Swartz recorded assists. Danny Mitchell earned the win in goal.

On Saturday, the Stars skated to a 2-1 overtime win against Team Maryland. Alex Walked banged home a game winner, on the power play, in overtime to secure the win and Conor Stroebel turned aside 25 of the 26 shots he faced to record the win in goal. Corbin Ragno scored the lone regulation tally for the Stars, a power play goal set up by Preston Muha and Brayden Morgan.  Lane Ruffner and Dustin Geregach got the Helpers on the overtime goal.

The 18U Stars closed the event with the highlight game of the showcase  on Sunday as they dropped a tough 2-1 decision to the New Jersey Jr. Tianas in an overtime/shootout. Ryder Brophy scored the lone Star's goal in regulation, with an assist to Dustin Geregach. Danny Mitchell, suffered the defeat despite turning aside 27 of the 28 shots he faced in regulation and overtime. The Star's killed a five-minute major penalty for the last three minutes of regulation and first two minutes of overtime to keep the game knotted at 1-1., which it stayed at for the remainder of the overtime period.  The game was decided in a shootout, as the Jr. Titans would prevail in the seventh round of the sudden death shootout.

The 3-0-0-1 showing at the second league event, improves the U18 Stars overall record to 8-1-1-2. 

The 16Us open their Eastern Showcase schedule with a 4-0 win over the  New Jersey Jr. Titans on Friday.  Goaltender, Nathan Dickey, turned aside all 21 Titans shots he faced to record the win and shutout in goal. and lead the Stars to the win. Adis Ultanbekov, two goals, Alex Keller and Keith Smilowitz scored the Star's goals. While Egor Busygin and Regan Kallis, two assists each, and Nolan Merulli, Hunter Fairman, Grant Parshall, and Ethan Zupanc added assists in the win.

On Saturday, the Stars skated to a 8-2 win over the Northeast Generals in a morning game. Justin Metrick (two goals and one assist) and Adis Ultanbekov (two goals) each found the back of the net twice. Alex Keller (one goal, four assists), Hunter Fairman (one goal, two assists), Keith Smilowitz and Grant Parshall rounded out the goal scoring. Egor Busygin recorded three assists, Regan Kallis two assists and Ethan Zupanc one assist for the Stars. Logan Marnik turned aside 19 of the 21 shots he faced to get the win in goal.

Saturday afternoon the Stars returned to the ice and continued their high scoring effort as they skated past the Everett Jr. Silvertips 9-2. Adis Ultanbekov (two goals, one assist), Egor Ramanau and Keith Smilowitz each scored a pair of goals. While Regan Kallis (one goal, two assists), Ethan Zupanc (one goal, one assist) and Alex Keller scored the other Star's goals. Nolan Merulli (two assists), Shane Miller, Kamil Zainullin, Grant Parshall and Justin Mettrick added assists. Nathan Dickey earned the win in goal.

The Stars would close the showcase weekend with a tough 4-2 defeat to Meijer AAA on Sunday. Alex Keller scored both of the Stars goals, while Hunter Fairman (two assists) and Neil Domico recorded assists. Logan Marnik suffered the loss in goal.

With the 3-1-0-0 showing at the Eastern Showcase, the U16 AAA Stars overall record improves to 10-2-0-0.

Meanwhile, the 15U Esmark Stars AAA Hockey spent the weekend in Detroit at the Motor City Cup Fall Classic Showcase.

The U15s opened the event Friday night, dropping a 1-0 decision to MDHL. Fedor Tabako suffered the loss in goal, turning aside 26 of the 27 shots he faced.

On Saturday morning.  the Stars skated to a 3-0 shutout win over the Michigan Hockey Advancement U15 squad. Chase Williams, Zachary Zeto and Jacob Maier all scored goals for the Stars. While Kowin Betserling (two assists) and Owen Tutich earned helpers. Paul Postosnak earned the shutout and win in goal turning aside all 19 shots he faced.

On Saturday evening the Stars dropped a 4-0 shutout loss to the Michigan Hockey Advancement U16 squad. Fedor Tabako suffered the loss in goal, stopping 29 of the 33 shots he faced.

The Stars close out the showcase with a 4-2 win over the MHA Red U16 squad, as they scored three goals on special teams, two power play and one shorthanded.  Logan Scanlon led the offense with three points, including a pair of goals, one on the power plan and one shorthanded to ice the game, and an assist. Tristan Lloyd and Chase Williams scored the other Stars goals. Ben Guenther picked up an assist. Paul Postosnak earner the win in goal, turning aside 38 of the 40 shots he faced.

The 2-2-0-0 record at the Motor City Cup Fall Classic Showcase, brings the Stars overall record to 7-9-1-1.
