Recap: Esmark Stars Sept. 7 & 8

U18s and U16s Open Play

The Esmark Stars U16 and U18 AAA Midget teams kicked off the 2019-2020 season this past weekend (Sept. 7 - 8).

The U16 Stars opened the season on the road in Indianapolis with a pair of games against the Indy Jr. Fuel.  After skating to a 5-4 win on Saturday evening, the Stars completed the weekend sweep with a 9-3 win over the Jr. Fuel on Sunday.   The pair of road "W's" got the U16 Stars off to a 2-0-0-0 record on the young season.

The U18 AAA Stars opened the season with a pair of home games against the Amherst Knights.

On Saturday evening, the Stars rode a six goal explosion in the second period to a 9-1 win.  Ryder Brophy led the way with four goals.  Gio Palombo (two goals and one assist) and Nikita Zapolski each found the back of the net twice, Alex Walker scored the other Stars goal and notched three assists.  Ed Pazo picked up four assists, while Corbin Ragno, Dalton Swartz and Dominic Desort each collected a pair of assists. Trent Grey, Dustin Geregach and Lane Ruffner each added a single helper. Danny Mitchell stopped 20 of the 21 shots he faced to earn the win in goal.

On Sunday, the Stars resumed their offensive onslaught as they skated to a 6-1 win.  Alex Walker (three goals and one assist) paced the attack. Ed Pazo (one goal. two assists), Dominic Dezort (one goal and one assist), and John Camp (one goal and one assist) scored the other Stars goals. Ryder Brophy added three assists and Preston Muha, Nikita Zapolski and Dustin Geregach each added an assist.  Connor Strobel earned the win in goal, stopping 20 of 21 shots on goal.

The home wins paced the Stars to a 2-0-0-0 record on the young season.

The U15 AAA Stars (1-3-1-0) had the weekend off.

The U15s will return to the ice this upcoming weekend (Sept. 14 & 15) as they welcome the Palmyra Black Knights to town to kick-off their home schedule.

While the U18 Stars kick off their road schedule, as they travel down Route 28 to Fox Chapel for a pair of games against Shady Side Academy.

The U16s will enjoy an off weekend.
