18U and 15U Stars sweep Blue Jackets

The Esmark Stars AAA hockey program drew the curtain closed on the 2018-19 regular season this past weekend, March 2 & 3, as the U18 and U15 Stars welcomed the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets to Pittsburgh for exciting Mid-American District action.

On Saturday, the 18U Stars skated to a 5-2 win over the Blue Jackets. Anton Kozitskiy paced the Stars scoring a pair of goals. Alexi Mance, Jackson Dobbs and JT Schmizzi also scored goals. Raman Yerameichyk recorded a pair of assists, and Corbin Ragno, Will Studt, Billy Rapone, Matsvei Kurylovich, Gio Palombo, Lane Ruffner and Blake Rossi all recorded an assist. Parker Rey earned the win in goal, stopping 26 of 28 shots he faced.

On Sunday, the Stars closed the two-game series with a 5-1 win over the Blue Jackets. Gio Palombo scored two goals to lead the Stars. Olda Virag, Blake Rossi and JT Schmizzi (1G, 1A) scored the other goals. Andrew Jacobs and Tyler Stewart, two each, and Lane Ruffner, one assist, each recorded assists. Danny Mitchell stopped 34 of 35 shots to record the win in goal.

The 18U Stars completed the regular season with a 41-12-1-1 record and will now turn their attention to the Mid-Am District Tournament in Cleveland, OH, March 8 - 11, 2019, and the coveted Mid-Am spot at the USA Hockey National Championships.

The U15 Stars captured the opening game of their two-game series, 5-2, over the Blue Jackets. On Sunday, the U15 Stars closed the regular season with a 4-0 shutout win as Nathan Dickey earned the shutout in goal, his second win of the weekend.

The 15U Stars completed the regular season with a 26-15-3-5 record and are preparing for the Mid-Am District Tournament in Cleveland, OH, March 8 - 11, 2019, and the coveted Mid-Am spot at the USA Hockey National Championships.

The U16 AAA Stars enjoyed the weekend off and had already completed the 2018-19 season with an overall record of 29-17-2-2. Likewise, they are preparing for the upcoming Mid-Am District Tournament in Cleveland, OH, March 8 - 11, 2019, and the coveted Mid-Am spot at the USA Hockey National Championships.
