Esmark Stars Recap Feb. 16 - 19

U18, U16, U15 & U12 IN ACTION

Four of the five Esmark Stars AAA teams were in action over the course of this past weekend, Feb. 16-19,  as the U12, U15, U16 and U18 teams were on the ice.

The U15 AAA Stars dropped a 5-4 curfew decision to the Pittsburgh Icemen on Sunday at the FrozenPond Arena in Valencia, PA.  The loss dropped the U15 Stars overall record to 24-24-4-3.

The U16 and U18 AAA Esmark Stars were in Troy, MI, for the North American Prospects Hockey League Dixon Cup Playoffs, as the NAPHL crowned playoff champions in the U18 and U16 AAA Divisions.

The U16 Stars, who finished the NAPHL regular season in second place, 14-2-0-1, opened their playoff run with a 4-1 win over the Arizona Bobcats, would go on to win the league U16 Playoff Championship, behind a hat-trick from Cole Ferri.  In their second game, the Stars would drop a 2-1 decision to CarShield AAA (MO).  In their final round-robin game, the Stars were upended by the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders (CO), 5-2., relegating the Stars to a consolation bracket game against the Everett SilverTips, who entered the playoffs as the number one seed having won the NAPHL regular season crown.  The U16 Stars would win the battle of "1 vs 2" with a 1-0 win behind a Kenny Vought shutout.  The 2-2-0-0 showing brings the U16 overall record to 34-19-2-2.

The U18 Stars, who finished the NAPHL regular season tied for sixth place, opened their playoff run against the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders (CO) and dropped a 2-1 decision.  Needing a pair of wins in their remaining round-robin games to qualify for semi-final action, the Stars skated to a 6-2 win over the Sioux Falls Jr. Stampede (SD), and a 2-1 win over Elite AAA Hockey (CT) to earn the semi-final berth.  In the semi's, the Stars drew number one seed Car Shield AAA (MO), the NAPHL's regular season champion.  The Stars would go on to skate to a 4-2 win over Car Shield and advance to the NAPHL Playoff Championship Game where they would pick up their first Dixon Cup NAPHL 18U Championship with a n exciting 5-2 win over the Tampa Scorpions.  The U18 Stars improved their overall record to 32-15-2-6.

The U12 Stars traveled to Bridgewater, NJ, to participate in the New Jersey SuperSeries AAA President's Day Tournament where they dropped decisions to the Connecticut Condors, New Jersey Jr. Titans, New York Saints, Southtown Stars and the Protec Ducks.

The U14 Stars have the weekend off.
