R.I.P. New Kensington Police Officer Brian Shaw

It is with deepest sympathies that the Esmark Stars AAA Hockey Organization mourn the passing of Officer Brian Shaw, 25, a rookie member of the New Kensington Police Department.

Shaw, who was shot and killed Friday, Nov. 17, while on duty and during a routine traffic stop, was the brother of former Pittsburgh Viper Star defenseman Steffan Shaw.

The Esmark Stars were known as the Pittsburgh Viper Stars before changing names.

"When I heard the first radio report of the shooting and the name of the officer who was shot and killed, I was shocked to hear," said head coach and Stars founder Dave Kosick.   "My heart aches for his family ... his parents Stephan and Lisa ... and his brother and our former teammate Steffan."

The Stars plan to hold an event later in the season to commemorate the passing of Office Shaw and to honor his family and brother.  Details will be announced at a later date.
